These inspiring sessions will dive into the techniques\, challenges\, and artistry behind two of pottery’s most complex forms: throwing with porcelain and making the perfect teapot. \n About Sharon Lea \nBorn in Britain and raised in the wild landscapes of New Zealand’s South Island\, Sharon Lea creates ceramics rooted in nature. Her early exposure to wind-shaped rock\, water-worn surfaces\, and a background in botany fostered a lasting fascination with organic forms. Today\, that connection continues to flow through her practice. \nSharon studied at Clay College in Stoke\, where she is now a tutor. Her work is known for its expressive throwing lines\, fluid shapes\, and thoughtful use of natural materials—many sourced from her family’s own farm. SUMMARY:Ceramic Screw Tops - elevate your pot design with Joe Small
DESCRIPTION:Joe Small\n\nJoe Small produces high-fired stoneware and porcelain\, inspired by ancient and contemporary East Asian ceramics. Building on his practical skills and previous geochemical research career\, Joe adopts a holistic approach to ceramics\, utilising locally sourced clays\, rocks and wood ashes in his glazes. His kilns and other equipment are self-built and include novel tools to form ceramic screw threads. The form of his pieces and use of clay slips and textured decoration are created to accentuate his specialist flame reduction glazes and their molten reactions and nucleation on clay surfaces. \nIn this informal two hour workshop\, Joe will explain how to make ceramic screwtops for vessels and participants will have the chance to try it out for themselves.  Anyone who is interested in new and innovative techniques in clay will love this event! \n£15 per person all materials included.

DESCRIPTION:Goosfest Arts & Crafts Weekend\n\n\n\nThe reputation and interest in Goosfest’s Annual Art Exhibition of NW Artists has continued to grow since it started 4 years ago. The number of people visiting our exhibition has increased year on year and almost 1000 people visited over the 3 days the art was displayed last year. The majority of the art is from NW based artists and also for sale. This is a chance to buy an original work of art\, we also have our Goosfest Art shop based there where you can purchase much of the art on display as well as other merchandise. \nThe setting of The Orchards Farm Barn is a wonderful and highly atmospheric environment for displaying art and we are sure you will enjoy the experience. Credit and debit cards are taken. \nWe have also increased our ever popular ‘workshops’ and this year we are offering the majority of these at Lowes Farm in collaboration with the Cheshire Clay Studios. This provides a perfect venue for workshops and there is ample parking and an onsite café. These workshops are really excellent value and are subsidised and designed to provide an ‘experience-taster’ for those who have always wanted to try but have always put it off! Don’t miss this opportunity as the tickets always sell quickly.

Then it’s over to you to decorate it using special Raku glazes — metallic\, crackled\, and unpredictable in all the best ways.\nOnce your piece is ready\, the real magic begins. You’ll help load the raku kiln and feel the roar of the flames as your pot is heated to over 1000°C in just 35 minutes. While the heat works its alchemy\, grab a coffee from our on-site café or chat with our friendly Raku expert\, who’ll explain the secrets behind the process.\nFire\, Smoke and Steam\nWith the kiln blazing hot\, the pots are carefully lifted out — red-hot and glowing — and placed into small bins. Here’s where you take centre stage again: add newspaper and watch your pot erupt into flames.
